My earliest recollection of working with textiles was helping my mother to make a pair of curtains on her very old Singer treadle sewing machine, I must have spent many hours pedalling away, combining my new found skills with aerobic exercise!
When my children were young I made their clothes and then in later years a friend introduced me to patchwork and quilting. I made my first double bed quilt entirely by hand, it took over a year to make and I still have it. I normally only make things which have a specific purpose or as gifts for my friends and family. Over the years I’ve done embroidery, knitting, made wall-hangings and pictures. I enjoy experimenting with various techniques but my first love is still patchwork and quilting. There is something satisfying in cutting up fabric and then sewing it back together!!!
I prefer to make up a pattern I have seen; it is so much easier to visualise than trying to make up my own designs.
Ribble Creative Stitchers is a lovely group to belong to, the members are so friendly and there are a great variety of workshops to enjoy
